Software Engineering Interns

London, UK

Who we are

Accessia is hyper secure, next gen workplace access, experience, and analytics technology that’s simple to manage, easy to use, and delivers unparalleled intelligence into how spaces are used.

We were founded in 2021 by a group of problem-solving innovators who believe in building better. Better data and better experiences for better workplaces.

What you’ll do

Previous interns have worked as small self-contained development teams to own and create entire projects on their own, supported by the wider team. In the past three years the projects have encompassed a cloud service to manage visitors; visualisation of how people use a building including data generation to simulate that usage; and a mobile application to help installers commission new hardware. To do these the interns have written Kotlin, Python, Typescript, SQL, Terraform, C++; used technologies such as React, Android, AWS Lambda, Opensearch, PostgreSQL, Bluetooth – pretty much everything we use as a company.

Each of the projects has gone on to see real world usage – often in fact the slightly exploratory nature of intern projects has led the whole company to pivot to follow the ideas investigated. You won’t be expected to make the tea or just shadow another engineer, you’ll be given the freedom and opportunity to actually make something significant!

Our internships are ten weeks plus one week of paid holiday, and a salary of £600 per week. The programme will run roughly between the start of July and then end of September, which will comfortably fit ten weeks of work while still leaving a week or two for you to have a summer holiday. We're based in Central London, and while everyone is free to work from home when they need to, the internships would be majority office based. This is to help you get the most out of the experience and give you a real feel for the working environment as well as access to experienced engineers just across the room when there's something you don't understand or need help with. It’s also the best way for a team to work together creatively.

What we’re looking for

We’re looking for people who:

  • Are on course for a good degree, ideally graduating summer 2026

  • Have excellent A levels (or equivalent)

  • Are studying a STEM (science, technology, engineering, or maths) subject. Or, if you’re not studying a STEM subject, tell us why you have the aptitude for a programming role

  • Have the right to work in the UK, or hold an appropriate visa allowing to work in a summer internship (this is usually permitted with student visas)

To maximise your chance of being invited to interview, make sure to show us evidence on your CV of how you are:

  • Interested in solving problems, especially using computers

  • Able to take a problem away and motivate yourself to solve it without supervision, but also not afraid to ask questions and seek help when you need to

  • Good at taking complicated problems and breaking them down into solvable chunks

How to apply

Our interview process starts with us asking you to do a simple programming test. This is not timed, but typically takes around an hour. We’ll then discuss the test in a first-round screening interview on a video call.

If that goes well, we’ll follow up with at least two further interviews with our intern mentors. This second round could be over video, but, if possible, we'd like to invite you to our office so we can get to know each other in person. In the interview, we'll give you a variety of problem-solving questions to see if you have what it takes, but with a focus on potential and ability to think, not on knowledge. We'll teach you (or expect you to research) what you need to know to do the job, so we'll be looking to see that you can learn.

If that all sounds good to you, email us your CV (and an optional cover letter if you feel your CV doesn't tell the whole story) to internjobs@accessia.com
